On January 10, 2024, the Libertas Council gathered leaders within the anti-human trafficking movement from across Virginia for a Commonwealth Freedom Conversation. This event brought together government officials, business leaders, and non-governmental organizations to talk about the challenges and opportunities around ending human trafficking within the Commonwealth. Hosted at the Jefferson Hotel in Richmond, this event left participants excited about what is to come.

At the outset of the lunch, the First Lady of Virginia shared a proclamation naming January 11th Virginia’s Human Trafficking Awareness Day. She delivered the framed copy, signed and issued by Governor Youngkin, to the Libertas Council’s Ambassador John Richmond.

During the lunchtime conversation, various key leaders from around the Commonwealth shared their difficulties as well as their successes in eradicating human trafficking. The discussion centered around structures, policies, and communication channels that could be helpful in connecting leaders in the movement. Our hope is that this event will promote continued collaboration in the anti-human trafficking movement across Virginia.
